Growth in a tough market – May AucklandICT Meeting

Growth in a tough market

Hear from Greg Davidson CEO of Datacom and Greg Shanahan publisher of the TIN100 Report how the Technology Export Sector has benefited from the global recession.

Datacom is one of New Zealand’s largest IT companies with revenues in 2009 of $609 million. It ranks as the second largest company in the TIN100 Report the annual survey of NZ’s globally focused tech industry. As companies hunkered down for the storm to pass, Datacom invested $35m in a state of the art data centre in Auckland and grew its revenues for the year ending March 31 2009 by 35%. Datacom was the PricewaterhouseCoopers Hi-Tech Company of the Year in the NZ Hi-Tech Awards 2010.

But Datacom was not alone. The ten leading growth companies in the TIN100 Report grew combined revenues by 34% or a massive $475m, i.e. nearly $50m each!

This is an opportunity for Auckland ICT members to learn firsthand from a major NZ success story and find out why Datacom is not alone in the NZ tech space as a leader of economic growth.

Update on Trans-Tasman ICT Link-up
The presentation from Elena Vasilchenko of IISEIE and Sharl Gedye from Austrade at the April event has stimulated a lot of interest. They will give an update and you can talk to them in the networking sessions.

A virtual Trade Mission will allow Auckland ICT companies to hear from Australian companies which are looking for NZ Technology partners. Auckland ICT members eager to get into Australia, will also get the chance to prepare a five-minute recorded presentation that will be played to relevant Australian companies. Where there are synergies between two companies, a private one-on-one video conference will be held at the Australian Consulate to make formal introductions.

This is a great opportunity for Auckland ICT members wanting to make connections in Australia, and to hear from potential Australian companies wanting to make Kiwi connections as they enter our market.

World Computer Congress
The World Computer Congress will be held in Brisbane from 20-23 September 2010. Take a look at the list of conferences that are part of this congress. We are keen to find out how many companies are interested in taking part in a New Zealand delegation.

Mark 27th May in your diary as the date for this month’s Auckland ICT networking event. We have another great line-up of speakers and a full programme for the evening.

Remember – both knowledge sharing and ‘who you know’ play a big part in business success. Be sure to pass this invitation on to your colleagues and contacts.

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new website and the Auckland ICT Committee would like to thank our technology partner Covalense for developing a completely new website. Take a look for yourself and login to update your profile and RSVP for this event. If you have any problems logging in, please email
